Reading Rainbow

My friend is such a clever creative girl. She is quite the bookworm, just like me. We both have a slew of books and very very full book shelves. During a recent shindig at her lovely abode I noticed her new arrangement of her books. They were sorted by color. How beautiful! Such a slendid idea made me quite envious. My own library is arranged alphabetically by chaos (the white shelves below her rainbow shelves).

Kindred Sister

One of the best things about today's fair was the chance to see my tender friend M and her merchant tent. She is just an amazing force in my life. M has inspired me to join the gym, become more stylish, and encourages my art endeavors every chance she can. She herself is an amazing artist with her independent photography business Kindred Spirits. If you visit her site you can see her sensitive and caring photographs...as well a picture of the husband and me taken for our fifth wedding anniversary. Note: We both share an Irish/Slovak heritage and tend to adore the same foods...which always makes for a good friendship! She truly is my Kindred Sister.

Hello. Greetings. Salutations. To all whom commented this week I would love to send you a sample of my little post cards. Under my blog profile is a new exclusive email for the corporate cog. And those of you that are local dear hearts...please send your addresses too ('cause I am terrible with keeping track of such things)! I am filled with snap pink joy to have the opportunity to give "thank you"s to those whom cheer my creative heart.

The Great Grape Wonder

A few weeks ago my lovely friend C came to dinner. She had enough patience to also include a trip to the grocery store to purchase the ingredients for said dinner. On our culinary excursion she picked up some Welch's Grape Soda. It was love at first sip. It taste like summer time when I was ten. In the middle of last night the husband went to the store in order to retrieve a bottle of my desire. What I refer to as My Purple Pop---how I love thee fake purple sweetness of good.

Mister Snyder, My Nemesis

Excursions to the gym have been a good thing. It is nice to have a gym buddy. I tend to be a bit on the non-social side (especially after a long night at work dealing with third shift dramas). When my gym buddy M is able to be in sync with my gym times things go much smoother. Listening to her talk in the morning makes the miles and minutes flash along. I am so blessed to have such a friendship in my life--even if much of it, for the moment, is taking place as we sweat away the time on the ellipse machines that we both covet. A special thanks to Mister Snyder of Berlin's Sea Salt and Malt Vinegar Potato Chips. Because of you and your tastey addictive potato chip wonder I am positive my gym friendship will continue to flourish.

Visitors

This dignified zucchini and his lady friend cucumber came for a visit via my friend's M garden. They are so adorable and have such distinct personalities. Little do they know how much I enjoy fried zucchini as well as fresh cucumber tossed with an onion and sour cream. Yum, the taste of garden goodness.

Six Degrees of Obama Peaches

These are possibly the most precious peaches. To others I have been referring to them as my Obama Peaches. The peaches found their way to me via my splendid friend and fellow artist, M. She brought them to the gym one morning along with a large dignified zucchini. On a following gym day I heard from M that Obama had stopped at a local orchard market. She so lovingly picked these peaches at the same market that Obama purchased peaches for all the reporters in tow. It pleases me to know that our peaches were once waiting in the bushels next to the same peaches that would feed the campaign trail paparazzi. I can imagine his simple pleasure in enjoying these pretty peaches full of the taste of summer...and the kindness of friends.

Post!

Very swell things arrived in the mailbox today. Most were expected. One provided a jolt of surprise happiness into my day (a day that had been previously filled to the rim with a negative work experience). The Tree Reader will be a spectacular addition to my growing collection of "girls with books" art. The Scissors are sweet pink inspiration for my sewing corner (because now that the studio is basically done...I have the itch to sew again). The cherry blossom earrings are part of a quest to find the most awesome red dangling earrings available (to wear to work in order to contrast with all the blah blue that I wear). And then the very best thing...a hand drawn and inked Thank You card from my dear friend that came for a visit last weekend.
A side note on friendship: When I was an angst filled teen with britches and a sour attitude too big for a small river town, she would tell me:
"...that in life you were lucky to have a few good, true friends. Ones that you could always count on...when things were rough. You may not have or find that many. Probably just enough to count on one hand...."
She was so wise. I can do just that. I am blessed to have the good friends that I do.

Good Company

Sometimes it is nice to have a simple day. Initially the plans involved going to see an outdoor production of Hamlet with a friend that traveled from Pittsburgh. At close to the last minute we learned that the tickets were $36 a piece and the play took place come rain or shine. The sun predicted for the day morphed into a thunder storm. And we discovered that the play was located by a lagoon. This was a very negative factor. Point of interest about me in the summer time: Mosquitoes love, crave, destroy my skin. With that excursion dismissed, we planned for dinner and a movie in an air conditioned theater sans mosquitoes. After going grocery shopping for the details of the meal we actually made a small dinner. Yep, I turned the oven on and everything. The meal:
  • Fresh squeezed lemonade
  • Presbyterian Chicken (a family favorite comfort food for 20 years or more)
  • Red seedless grapes
  • Corn
  • and Blueberry Crisp for dessert (and a little as an appetizer...we had too! It smelled so yummy.)

We made the table look lovely by including the new up-cycled napkins. To add to the social feel of the evening my sister came to visit. The conversations were so pleasant. The time ticked away. Before we knew it it was very late. The movie times had come and gone. It was just lovely to be able to have an evening to share stories, ideas, and a little art. Maybe this autumn we will plan an even bigger social dinner... Bonus: my sister did the dishes!
